Serpentking "Prelude" Video #1
Okay, okay, so it’s a rather laughable attempt, but I scoured around the dingy creepy corners of the freeware internet to find some crappy “screencasting” program called ‘hypercam’ or something, so I could capture video footage of the game I’ve been working on creating in RPG Maker XP, “Tribes of Norlan: The Serpentking.” This is part of the ‘prelude,’ or introductory chapter to the game. (I’m giving all the chapters musical names. Don’t laugh.) Unfortunately, although most of the ‘intelligence’ sources on the internet say that most modern sound cards can record just fine from the speakers with screencasting software, apparently my only year-old model can’t do it, without it sounding very faint and garbled under layers of static. So, I wanted to add in background music instead. Well, Movie Maker won’t let me put MIDI files into the audio track, so I had to find some more sleazy freeware to convert the midi file to wav. Not to mention this ‘hypercam’ thing sucks ballz, but hey it’s actually the only one that worked, every other one just mangled it. Plyeach, bleargh! I spit on you, modern technology! Then I wipe it off because you’re all I know… anyway here it is.
Don’t laugh too hard. Also, I know using a program like RPGXP is kind of cheating, but I’m too dumb, poor, and lacking in free time to learn how to program games from scratch on my own. So cheating it is. Anyways, I get a little experience with Ruby from working with RPGXP, even though it’s tedious and alien to me. Seriously, it took like 4 days of spending all my free time after work to figure out how to create the special text boxes with character portraits that you get a glimpse of right at the end there as General Karlon begins to speak. Man, it’s so much less impressive without thunder booms though..
oh well.
