Dutch translation 101

I recently translated and subtitled some dutch commercials on my own. Actually, I’m pretty sure the meaning of the videos was pretty clear from context, but I couldn’t find any fully translated/subtitled versions of these commercials on YouTube. So I did it for the ‘eck of it.

 

 

It’s called “De Maatschappij - dat ben jij.” (Society - that is you.)

It’s drawn in the style of Nijntje.

 

I Love and Miss Dutch TV. I need to move out of this country.

Or steal access to BVN from Calvin College.

Serpentking "Prelude" Video #1

Okay, okay, so it’s a rather laughable attempt, but I scoured around the dingy creepy corners of the freeware internet to find some crappy “screencasting” program called ‘hypercam’ or something, so I could capture video footage of the game I’ve been working on creating in RPG Maker XP, “Tribes of Norlan: The Serpentking.” This is part of the ‘prelude,’ or introductory chapter to the game. (I’m giving all the chapters musical names. Don’t laugh.) Unfortunately, although most of the ‘intelligence’ sources on the internet say that most modern sound cards can record just fine from the speakers with screencasting software, apparently my only year-old model can’t do it, without it sounding very faint and garbled under layers of static.

I do wish [Adult Swim] would play more shows that I can actually stand.. and that they would stop moving the anime shows later and later on Saturday nights.. seriously, I have to stay up until like 1:30 to see a new episode of Bleach. Bishes. Ooh, ooh, but here, watch a rerun of Venture Bros. you’ve already seen 14 times before.. I mean for an [AS] cartoon, Venture Bros. is pretty awesome, especially considering it was produced by those Williams Street ************s. Hey, let’s do a live action show featuring two really unfunny comedians doing nothing for a half hour! Or poorly animated squids! Or stuff that isn’t animated at all, or that abomination ‘renegade angel’ show that made me want to shoot myself. I can’t even watch more than half an hour of [AS] on weeknights anymore. Well, at least I’m getting some regular sleep hours for once…

Annoying…

Who doesn’t love the song “Changes” by David Bowie? No one, that’s who.

But remember that saxophone solo at the very end of the song? I’ve had the last few notes of that solo stuck on a repeating loop in my head ALL DAY so far today. Nah-nah-nah-nah.. WAH-nehr, WAH-nehr, WAH-nehr, WAH-neh-Wah-nerrr…… needless to say, it’s very annoying.

Oh, and then I went to Szechuan Garden down the street for lunch (alone mind you), and my fortune cookie said something about how there is a “deep and meaningful friendship between you both” (emphasis mine) WTF? I don’t have anybody like that in my life.. I hardly have any friends left that I’m in contact with. I think my food is mocking me. How’s that for paranoia?
